Let me paint you a picture of my support life before I found anything like Sonny: five tabs open at all times. Live chat on one, email in another, a social DM inbox, a WhatsApp business tab, and the occasional “did you see my message on [platform]?” from a customer who absolutely did not see my reply, because it went to a different tab.
Sound familiar? That’s the exact pain Sonny is built to kill.
What Sonny actually is
Sonny is a live chat and helpdesk platform with one core promise: one inbox for all your support apps. Instead of five tabs, you get one place where messages from everywhere land, get answered, and get tracked.
The pitch on the tin is “one inbox, AI-powered responses, real-time reporting, and team collaboration.” Let me unpack what that actually means in practice.
The unified inbox is the headline feature. Email, live chat, and your other support channels route into a single view. You’re not juggling windows anymore — you’re working one queue. For a solo operator or a small team, that alone saves the kind of time you don’t notice until it’s gone.
AI-powered responses handle the repetitive stuff. The predictable questions — “where’s my order?”, “how do I reset this?”, “what are your hours?” — get draft answers instantly, which you can send or edit. It’s not replacing you; it’s removing the typing.
Real-time reporting shows you what’s actually coming in — volume by channel, response times, the questions that eat your day. That’s the part most support tools bury under five menu layers.
Team collaboration means shared inboxes, so two people aren’t answering the same customer, and nothing falls through the cracks when someone’s away.
What it feels like to use
The dashboard is clean. Not “we added seventeen widgets to justify the price” clean — genuinely calm. Your channels on one side, conversation list in the middle, the open ticket on the right. It’s the kind of layout you understand in ninety seconds.
Setting up the main channels took me under an hour. Email routing, chat widget on the site, connecting the other apps — the wizard holds your hand through most of it.
The AI responses are the feature that’ll either win you over or leave you cold, depending on your tolerance for drafting. For me, the sweet spot is letting it write the first version and then fixing the tone. It’s a speed boost, not a mind reader. Expect to edit.
What I like about it
The single inbox genuinely changes the rhythm of support work. There’s a mental overhead to switching tabs that you don’t realize you’re paying until it’s gone. My first full day on it felt noticeably lighter.
The reporting is honest and useful. Seeing “these three questions are 40% of your tickets” is the kind of insight that tells you exactly which FAQ page to write next.
And for a small team, the collaboration layer is the difference between “support is fine” and “support is someone’s actual job that doesn’t turn into chaos.”
Where it falls short
I have to be straight about this one: Sonny is an early-stage product. It’s on AppSumo’s Radar program, which literally means it’s managed by the team that built it, without the full vetting process. At the time I’m writing this, it has very few reviews. That’s a real risk factor, not a footnote.
What that means practically:
Expect rough edges. Some integrations will be smoother than others. Edge cases will pop up. The feature set will shift as the product matures — which is fine if it’s getting better and annoying if a feature you rely on changes.
Support for the support tool itself is a startup operation. If you’re mission-critical dependent on it, that’s a consideration.
It’s not a full enterprise helpdesk. If you need deep workflows, SLAs, and a hundred integrations, this isn’t that. It’s built for small teams and solo operators who need one clean inbox, not a support empire.
The pricing helps offset the risk — it’s a lifetime deal, so you’re not on a subscription treadmill. But lifetime deals on early products are a bet. You’re betting the product matures well. I think it will, but I can’t guarantee it, and nobody honestly can.
Who should buy it
Buy it if you’re a solo founder, freelancer, or small team drowning in scattered customer messages. If your support currently lives in “wherever the customer reached me,” Sonny gives you a spine for it.
Skip it if you need enterprise features, if you’re supporting thousands of tickets a day, or if you’re not comfortable betting on an early-stage product.
The verdict
Sonny solves a real, specific, annoying problem: scattered support. The unified inbox is genuinely good, the AI assistance is a useful co-pilot, and the reporting tells you things you should have known months ago.
The early-stage caveat is real, and you should weigh it honestly. But for the price of a lifetime license, consolidating your support into one calm inbox is a pretty good trade.
If your support life looks like my old five-tab life, here’s the deal: Sonny on AppSumo
