Is ElevenLabs Music Cheaper Than Royalty-Free Libraries?
Yes — significantly. If you create content regularly, ElevenLabs GenMusic costs pennies per track compared to $15–$200+ per track from royalty-free libraries. The more music you need, the bigger the savings.
This isn’t just about price. It’s about value per track — originality, speed, and unlimited customization.
The Real Cost of Royalty-Free Libraries
Let’s be honest about what “royalty-free” actually costs:
| Platform | Single Track | Subscription (Annual) | License Restrictions |
|---|---|---|---|
| AudioJungle | $15–$200+ | N/A | Limited to specific uses per license tier |
| Artlist | N/A | $200/year | Unlimited, but catalog is shared |
| Epidemic Sound | N/A | $180–$360/year | YouTube only unless upgraded |
| Pond5 | $19–$199 | N/A | Per-track licensing, restrictive |
| Musicbed | $49–$199 | N/A | Project-specific, no blanket license |
Now add the hidden cost: time. Searching for the right track across thousands of options takes 30–60 minutes per project. That’s billable time you never get back.
What ElevenLabs GenMusic Costs
ElevenLabs includes GenMusic in its subscription plans. Here’s the breakdown:
| Plan | Monthly Price | GenMusic Included | Cost per Track* |
|---|---|---|---|
| Creator | $11 | Yes (basic) | ~$0.03–$0.11 |
| Pro | $99 | Yes (full) | ~$0.02–$0.05 |
| Scale | $330 | Yes (full + higher quality) | ~$0.01–$0.03 |
The bottom line: One AudioJungle track costs more than an entire month of ElevenLabs Creator plan. Even the Pro plan pays for itself after 2–3 custom tracks if you compare to premium stock libraries.

When Stock Libraries Still Make Sense
There are edge cases where traditional libraries win:
- Live recordings: Real instruments played by humans (if that matters for your brand)
- Very specific historical/period pieces: AI struggles with niche vintage genres
- One-off projects: If you need exactly 1 track and never again, a $15 AudioJungle purchase might be cheaper
But for most content creators — YouTubers, podcasters, indie devs, app makers — ElevenLabs GenMusic is cheaper, faster, and better in every practical sense.
Cost Comparison: Real-World Scenario
Scenario: A YouTube channel that uploads 4 videos per week, each needing 1 custom background track.
| Cost Factor | Stock Library | ElevenLabs GenMusic |
|---|---|---|
| Tracks needed (annual) | 208 | 208 |
| Cost per track | $29 (avg AudioJungle) | $0.05 |
| Annual music cost | $6,032 | $99 (Pro plan) |
| Time spent searching | ~100 hours | ~5 hours |
That’s $6,000+ savings per year plus 95+ hours saved. The math is brutal for traditional libraries.
